4C-FUTURE (2024–2027) is a cooperation partnership project co-funded from Erasmus+ programme. It focused on empowering teachers and students with the four key competencies (4 C’s) of 21st-century learning: Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking. In practical terms, 4C-FUTURE is developing an innovative teaching methodology that uses gamification (game elements) and experiential learning (learning by doing) to make education more engaging and effective. By harnessing playful and hands-on learning experiences, the project aims to help primary and secondary school students (ages 13–17) build these critical skills for the future while supporting their teachers with modern pedagogical tools.
- Equip Teachers with 4C Methods: Provide primary and secondary school teachers with a comprehensive methodology and training to teach the four competencies (Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking) more effectively in the classroom. This includes ready-to-use game-based activities and strategies to foster each skill in students.
- Develop Game-Based Learning Tools: Create a set of educational games and gamified activities specifically designed to develop students’ 4C skills. These will be compiled into a toolset (with an accompanying guide) that teachers can easily integrate into their lessons.
- Implement Experiential Training: Design an experiential training program for teachers that allows them to learn by doing and hand over this practice to students. Teachers will participate in the same kind of interactive, game-like learning experiences that they will later use with their students, ensuring they feel confident with the methods.
- Online Platform for Educators: Build an online training platform where teachers can access training materials, lesson plans, game templates, and collaborate with peers. This platform will support both self-paced learning and community exchange of best practices.
- Test and Refine through Pilots: Pilot the methodology and game activities in real schools across the partner countries. Gather feedback from both teachers and students to refine the tools and ensure they are effective, culturally adaptable, and engaging for the target age group.
- Strengthen Digital and Media Literacy: Through the development of the 4Cs—especially critical thinking and communication—the project also seeks to enhance students’ ability to navigate digital spaces responsibly. As students engage in game-based and experiential activities, they naturally strengthen their ability to evaluate online content, recognize misinformation, and behave responsibly in digital environments. The educational tools are designed not only to build core 21st-century skills, but also to support teachers in embedding media literacy practices into everyday classroom activities to help students recognize misinformation, challenge online manipulation, and assess the reliability of sources. In an age of viral content and deepfakes, teaching young people to spot fake news and think critically about media messages is essential. 4C-FUTURE integrates these skills into engaging classroom tasks, helping students become informed, thoughtful digital citizens.
